About the book

Organic Photochemistry has been written with the intention to simplify the subject matter for easy understanding of the students. Basic principles of photochemistry, the interaction of electro-magnetic radiation with matter, the resulting electronic transitions, various principles and laws followed in such transitions and the fate of the photoexcited molecules, are also covered. Subsequent chapters have been elaborated upon, the photochemistry of various class of organic compounds, viz., carbonyl compounds, alkenes, dienes, aromatic compounds, diazocompounds and azides, photorearrangement reactions, photoreduction and photooxidation reactions as well as photo substitution reactions. Several schemes of reactions including their mechanisms, are provided with clear, self explaining structures and equations. A chapter on the photochemical processes occurring in the nature is included as well.

Key Features

  • • Several figures, tables and graphs • Numerical problems along with their solution • Unsolved problems for self assessment • Useful for NET/SLET/IAS/PCS/GATE/JAM
