About the book
Solid State Physics, a comprehensive study for the undergraduate and postgraduate students of pure and applied science, as well as engineering disciplines is divided into nineteen chapters. The first seven chapters deal with structure related aspects such as lattice and crystal structures, bonding, packing and diffusion of atoms followed by imperfections and lattice vibrations. Chapter eight deals mainly with the experimental methods of determining crystal structures of given materials. While the next nine chapters cover various physical properties of materials. This chapter was added to understand the crystal properties (anisotropic) in terms of some simple mathematical formulations such as tensors and matrix. Further, keeping in view the importance of the topic for exhibiting interdisciplinary character and at the same time maintaining compatibility with other chapters of the book, a new chapter with the title ‘structure and properties of carbon allotropes’ has been added. This will not only provide basic information about different allotropes of carbon required at this level, but also provide new insights about them from the crystallographic point of view.
