About the book

The text introduces the dynamics of a system of particles in detail to study the motion of rigid bodies, assuming they are collections of particles. Rigid body motion is introduces along with moments and products of inertia, momental ellipsoid, principal axes, kinetic energy and angular momentum in terms of inertia constants. D’Alembertian, Eulerian, Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formulations describing the motion of rigid bodies are given in sequential chapters, emphasizing how these approaches are related to each other. The theory of small oscillations for a dynamical system, canonical transformations, Poisson backets and calculus of variations are discussed as well. The textbook covers all required topics of classical mechanics course at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. To help students build skills and confidence. Solved problems are provided to enhance the understanding and clarity of the topics. Solving these exercises will help students tackle difficult questions of mechanics.
